Salty Antlers was founded by Nate White
This is Nate’s story
I have been doing some form of carpentry basically my whole life, My dad taught me how to swing a hammer as soon as I could hold one in my hands. While growing up in Nebraska I helped my dad with all kinds of projects around the house and in the garage. When I was in middle school my family moved to South Dakota and I found myself spending my summers working on a farm doing just about anything and everything.
In college, at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, I started doing technical theatre and built all kinds of scenery and props. I also was a part time welder and worked concerts at the arena venues. During my summers I worked all over, in Nebraska working on center pivot irrigation, in New Mexico for two summers at the Santa Fe Opera, in Cape Cod supervising a shop at the Monomoy Theatre, and in South Dakota working road construction.
After College I went right into grad school at the University of Alabama. There I received my Master of Fine Arts in Theratre Production/Technical Direction. During the school year I worked in the scene shop at UA and in the summers I was running a four person shop for a theatre in Arrow Rock Missouri. I spent five summer seasons in Missouri and still do some consulting and drafting work for them.
Once I graduated I spent a short stint in Eastern Tennessee at a university. That was not a right fit for me, so I accepted a job at the University of Toledo as a lecturer in Technical Direction. Since moving to Toledo, I met the love of my life and got married in July of 2018. With the encouragement from my wife, I have been building a business using all the skills and trades I have learned over the years building custom furniture and gifts along with handyman services.
